I’ve been to Bryce Canyon a few times before, but in different time of the year.  This time I was there in the winter.  To me, Bryce Canyon displays an entirely different look and feel in the winter.

I remember in the summer, the hoodoos would glow in sun light, the sky would be full of clouds, and the sunset sky would have either a purplish or a reddish hue.  The kind of colors which the landscape photographers would love.  Even if you were not a photographer, it’s still a feast for the eyes.

This time, there were no such vibrant, glorious colors.  No clouds, gray sky, no sun light, just patches of snow from previous days.  It’s gloomy, cold and dry.  I didn’t see many photographers there.  Not many sightseers there, neither.  There were a few hikers.  The parking lot was pretty much empty.

It felt like the hoodoos were hibernating in dormant condition.  Except for “The Sentinel” (the tall and skinny hoodoo in the top left).  Looks like he was guarding the Queen’s Garden while others were sleeping.

If you have not visited Bryce Canyon, I recommend it highly …  any time of the year.

  1. Good capture to show to beauty and the emptiness of the canyon. Was the photo taken with your Zeiss lense?
